Greece - Rhodes

Updated: May 30, 2023

A summer holiday to Rhodes, enjoying the local attractions, beautiful sights and of course the sunny weather.

Location

We stayed in a lovely hotel called Amada Colossos Resort, located in Kallithea, which was a 20 minute bus journey into the centre of Rhodes.

Hotel amenities included:

There may be a variety of packages included with this hotel, however here is what was included in our stay.

All Inclusive 7 day package:

Rhodes

Old Town Rhodes is a beautiful medieval city, located within a 4km stone wall. The Street of the Knights is one of the most popular sights to visit in Rhodes. It is one of the best preserved medieval streets in Europe, which leads to the Palace of the Grand Masters. The quaint alleyways, are full of jewellery/ souvenir shops, bars and plenty of restaurant choices.

We travelled to Rhodes via bus, which cost around 2 euros per person. The journey begins from Faliraki, which resulted in us being one of the last hotel pick ups. The busiest times were in the afternoon and evening which meant being squished face to face with a stranger. The last bus back from Rhodes was around 10pm; we did not consider that EVERYONE would also be waiting for this, resulting in a stampede as the bus doors opened.

Kallithea Springs

The best place we found to go snorkeling was in Kallithea Springs; crystal clear water, featuring art deco architecture. The cost was 4 euros per person for the whole day, including shower and bathroom facilities, beach front café, and access to explore the once before thermal baths. The cost for a sun lounger was 30 euros per person. However, we were able to leave shoes and towels near the entrance to the water.

Close to Kallithea Springs are more bays, including Kokkini and Tasos beach. Both of these rocky bays are shallow clear water, perfect for snorkeling.

Lindos Acropolis

Another must visit attraction in Rhodes, is the Lindos Acropolis. This is a 4th century temple devoted to Athena Lindia, where people would worship their goddess. The cost to visit the Acropolis was around 12 euros per person. The trek to the top begins through the town of Lindos, making your way to the bottom of the path, where the incline begins. I would definitely suggest wearing suitable footwear, as there are lots of stairs and rocky paths throughout the walk.

Lindos is a beautiful cobbled street village, with traditional taverns, bars, local hand-craft stalls and boutiques. St Paul's Bay is a picturesque beach, located beneath the whitewashed, flat roof houses and surrounded by rocky cliffs.

Travelling to Lindos from Kallithea, on the bus took around 1 hour to reach the destination. Similar to Old town Rhodes, the bus station was extremely busy on the way back, due to limited busses. So ensure you are there in enough time with a pre paid ticket.

Things for next time

I would definitely love to visit Greece again, to experience a different island. Things I should remember; I do not need as many clothes as I think! Trainers are essential for lots of walking and sightseeing.
